The Douglas County Board of Education continues to make progress in naming a new superintendent. The Board worked with Georgia School Boards Association Search Leaders, Trudy Sowar and Dr. Sam King, to identify the characteristics desired in the new superintendent; adopted qualifications for the position; approved and disseminated a recruitment announcement; reviewed applications; and interviewed candidates who appeared to have closely met the qualifications.

Forty-four applications were received from a broad range of applicants. The applicants represented the following states: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, New Jersey, New Mexico, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Washington, Texas, and the District of Columbia. From these applicants, nine candidates were chosen for close review and eight were interviewed as the Board sought to determine those applicants best qualified for the position.

At least 14 calendar days before taking final action on the position, the Board is required to make available to the public documents for inspection and/or copying concerning as many as three persons under consideration whom the Board has determined to be best qualified for the position.

Three applicants have been named by the Board as determined to be the best qualified for the position. Information on these candidates is available at the Board office. Those applicants are listed below in alphabetical order. For information on each candidate, click the name.
