Principal's Corner

A Note from the Principal

Parents:

Our faculty and staff are looking forward to the beginning of the 2009-2010 school year.  It will mark the third year in our state of the art facility on Coursey Lake Dr.

Chapel Hill Elementary (CHES) has always enjoyed a reputation for academic excellence.  To continue this tradition, we acknowledge the dire need for a partnership with parents.  Student achievement can be stifled if this partnership does not exist.  We will make every effort to keep parents informed through newsletters, agendas, school website, conferences, and graded papers.  We ask that you take advantage of these things by reading all printed materials.  Please be sure to check the graded papers for student performance information.  Parents should plan to attend two face-to-face conferences during the year.  A phone conference is not sufficient in checking student progress.  We will make reasonable attempts to make these conferences convenient for parents.

Each year students are given tools to help them organize their academic work.  Fourth and fifth graders will receive agenda books to write their homework in and the parents and teachers will communicate through this medium as well.  The younger students will have homework sheets and newsletters that will serve this same purpose.

Students will be expected to conduct themselves in accordance with the Douglas County School System discipline code.  Beyond that code, students are reminded each year of a few "CHES House Rules."  We hope these rules will guide the student's caretaking of our building and the civility required for being part of our larger school population.  We anticipate parental support of these safeguards.

All the stakeholders of Chapel Hill Elementary School share the same mission of student achievement for every child.  Please join us in this endeavor and become a real participant in this process.  Student achievement is the responsibility of the school, child, and parents.  We look forward to working with you this coming year.

Sincerely,

Yvonne Kidney, Principal
